We are helping with this wonderful annual event! New Frontiers Charter School is hosting the Festival of the Arts: Family, Community, Culture. It is part of National Preservation Month.
The goal of the festival is for New Frontiers students and their families to celebrate those places that have special meaning to them. It doesn’t have to be an old building. Maybe it’s the backyard where the best graduation party was ever held, maybe it’s the place where you learned to roller skate, maybe it’s the church where your parents were married, or maybe it’s the tree where all the family piñatas were hung for birthday celebrations, it could even be a person—a living landmark! Ultimately, the point is to connect people to places.
The event is free and open to the public. There will be food sold to raise money for SAMMinistries-Overcoming Homelessness.

This is also a great opportunity to learn more about New Frontiers and our college immersion program where our students earn a High School diploma and Associate’s Degree. Tours will be held from 6pm-8pm. Contact Elizabeth Gonzalez Student Recruiter for more information. Phone: 210-533-3655 Ext. 3225
May is preservation Month, and San Antonio is a city with deep history. While OHP has identified and recognized many places of importance to our shared history, there are still many places that hold special everyday meaning to San Antonio residents. They want to make sure that those everyday places receive recognition. They also want to make sure that the public is engaged in telling OHP which places matter to them. This is a fun way for students to celebrate the depth of their cultural heritage.
May is Preservation Month, and we are ready to celebrate! Everyone has places that are important to them. Places they care about. Places that matter. This Place Matters is a campaign that encourages people to celebrate the places that are meaningful to them and to their communities, and Preservation Month is the perfect time to share it with the world.
This campaign isn’t just about photography, but is also about telling the stories of the places we can’t live without. You can tell your story in your own way. Through This Place Matters, we hope to encourage and inspire an ongoing conversation about the importance of place and preservation in all of our lives that lasts far beyond the month of May.
